This is a bit of a love letter to ourselves, but maybe you'll find that you needed to hear it too.
In 2017 we're hoping to launch another branch of our business. It really doesn't have anything to do with what we're currently doing. We're not really sure how to go about it, but it has been something we've wanted to try since before we opened this little studio. Hint, hint — it's a product based thing versus service based biz. But after going through creative burnout last year and feeling a little too comfortable with where we were at, we decided that this was the year to invest time into the project.
Lindsay can decide to go from blonde to a redhead overnight. I can decide to adopt two cats in the matter of an afternoon. And in our business, we can decide to stop creating our newsletter that people loved after one conversation. These were big decisions that took thought but were easily actionable. The start line was only a few inches from the finish.
But what do we do when the finish line is miles and miles away (and we really suck at running)?
It's time to embrace the baby steps.
We know this sounds like the most DUH blog post we've ever written and maybe it is.
But we can't get to the end before we pass the start.
At this point, we don't need to see the finish line. Every little detail doesn't need to be figured out. We don't even have to have our audience nailed down.
We just need to go.
So how are we going to start moving? Welp, we're going to do a biz version of Couch to 5k.
We're only looking 30 days ahead, at most.
What can we do this month that will put us closer to that finish line?
These are the only things that are going on our to-do list for right now.
Anything else that we think of that we need to do is getting put on a separate to-do list that is out of sight (and therefore out of mind) until we reorganize at the start of the next 30 days.
One mile at a time. One step at a time. Baby steps. Very, very tiny baby steps.
But that finish line is getting closer.
