Whether you love social media or hate it, it has a huge influence on the brand you are building. People are constantly on their devices, constantly checking in on social platforms, and making decisions on whether or not they buy into your brand based on social media.
Social media is so ingrained in our daily lives that it has changed what it means to be a small business entirely. When we hear small business now, it doesn't mean local anymore. Your audience could be anywhere in the world, but they share space with you as almost a neighbor when it comes to social media.
We all work hard on making our social profiles pretty. We can become so obsessed with always having the perfect photo or tweaking our profiles to get more followers, that I think sometimes we forget that the best part about social media for small business is that it is the perfect platform to tell your STORY.
Your story is what sets you apart when people are shopping or just casually scrolling through social media. It's what makes someone stop and it's what makes someone stay.
At its core, branding is all about storytelling.
And as small business owners, our storytelling is a little different. We all have brands, strategies, and carefully thought out sales pitches. But at the end of the day, people buy people. We all have the desire to follow someone's story, so don't be afraid to really tell yours!
Does that mean you need to share EVERY little detail on social media and stop talking about your business? Obviously not. But, it's all about balance. Your business is part of you, and you are part of your business! Owning it and embracing it is the best way to start telling your story and building a brand.
