We'd worked with Lyda in the past on a project and loved every second of working with her. So when she came to us with a new project that her and her man we're bringing to life, we couldn't wait to be involved.
SO, WHAT'S THE SITCH?
Lyda + Ian came to us looking for a brand for their new Crossfit gym in Ireland.
When Crossfit first came to Ireland seven years ago, Ian was one of the first members and was hooked on the concept from the start. He was able to not only realise his own potential and how he could now push his body, but he was hooked on the whole concept of training as a team in small groups, meeting like-minded people, supporting each other etc.
Why did you decide to hire us?
Lyda: I worked with you guys on my other branding project and was really impressed overall by your work but also how helpful you were to just allow me to bounce ideas on you. I was going through a transition phase whereby I had ideas and was unsure whether to keep them all in the same place or branch out and you really helped me to talk it out. I also loved how helpful you always were to answer any questions whatsoever. Just really helpful! Like I said from the first project I felt you were both really organised and the project had really clear stages, files really accessible etc.
What was it like handing over control of a portion of your business?
Lyda: Always hard but I was much more trusting given this was project number 2!
SO, WHAT DID WE DO?
After collaborating with the two on the ultimate vision of the space, we knew we wanted the brand to be strong, raw, and industrial.
To bring this feel to life, we kept the type clean. The textures for the brand are a mix of natural woods and metals and concrete. And the colors for the brand are inspired by the tones in these textures.
For the logo itself, we played off the name of the gym. In Irish, solas means light. We used the "C" and "S" to create an abstract light bulb.
What was the hardest thing for you about working with a designer?
Lyda: Expressing what I thought of an image or a font. I still find this so hard because sometimes I just like/don't like something and not really sure why.
What surprised you about going through our design process?
Lyda: How fluid it all was. I suppose I had a bit better of an idea around what I wanted but it just felt like we got there a lot quicker.
SO, HOW DID THAT TURN OUT?
We'll just let Lyda answer that!
How did our work add value to your business?
Lyda: Massive workload off our shoulders and immediately made our business look really professional and stand out both visually (our gym front stickers and door sign) and virtually on our website. It made pulling a website together really easy as we had logo/icons etc to hand plus I absolutely LOVE the blueprint to help guide me on how to lay everything out.
