There are so many online courses available at our fingertips these days. Is anyone else out there questioning, "will this really add value to my business?" It's hard for us to invest without hearing more about it from someone we trust. So today, we're sharing our favorite classes we've gone through this past year. They've all helped to shape 407 into what it is today.
A word of warning, these courses are largely (but not totally) designed for service based businesses. And we won't be going through every little detail on the course, you can link to their landing pages to get all that info.
When Lindsay + I decided to open shop together, we worked through Paul's course. I had already been freelancing, but Lindsay was fairly new to the idea.
This course focuses on the business side of freelancing. It is packed full of actionable and easy to follow advice. All of our materials - our Getting Started Guide, website copy, proposals, contracts, worksheets, etc. - have a little something that Paul taught us inside of them.
If a new designer emails asking for info about running a studio, we'll email them this course. We were a part of this course since it first launched and thought it was worth every penny then, but it's value (not its price tag) continues to grow. Paul is constantly expanding the lessons and perks of the course.
This course was created by the amazing mind behind Betwixt, Erin. Lindsay hasn't taken it yet, but it's one I strongly stand behind.
The Cultivate Method helps you get clear on who you want to serve and how you want to serve them. It's a method for gaining a better understanding of yourself so your can clearly see the clients you best serve.
I've always been better at reading others minds than my own. I have never gone through a method that I was able to process as quickly and clearly as with Cultivate. The exercises that Erin created left me with answers and a new foundation for the clients I should say "yes" to working with.
Why would we take a branding eCourse when we consider ourselves branding experts? Because investing in continued education of your craft is crucial. We believed that Kathleen + Tara could teach us something new and we were right.
The sales page says that "the real magic is in the worksheets." And it's true! This course is all about what you put into it. If you half-ass the worksheets, you're not going to walk away with much. But if you do the work, fight through the headaches of answering hard questions, and think about who you really are, all those foggy thoughts in your head will clear up.
Over the next few months, you're going to see some things changing on the 407 website and that largely has to do with us finishing this course. We've gotten clearer on our messaging and future vision thanks to The Braid Method.
Have you taken an online course before? Which one and hat did you think? We'd love to hear about which course you think we should take next!
