We recently wrapped up working with Hopscotch Cakes + Confections + Cocktails on brand new and very happy branding. The project was a total DREAM for us. Kaya, the genius behind the brand, makes the most beautiful treats and we just can't stop staring at them!
Below we're excited to share what we created together and have Kaya shares her thoughts on working with us on the project.
SO WHAT'S THE SITCH...
When Hopscotch Cakes came our way, Kaya was ready to kick her biz to the next level and it was important to her to look the part, as she expanded her line of treats and planned to open her online shop. PS. We just got a package of treats in the mail this week and lots of yummy marshmallows are resting in our tummies.
Q: Why did you decide to hire us?
A: I really wanted to hire someone I could relate to, and who had a similar aesthetic to mine. I also looked for professionalism. Kristin and Lindsay showed up with their product options ready to go and that made it so easy to say yes.
Q: What was it like handing over control of a portion of your business?
A: Scary at first.....! I put so much into my business that it was pretty frightening trusting that someone would care as much as I do. But as soon as I got my first email back, I knew I'd made the right choice. They were quick to respond, and totally got what I was going for, even if that meant a few revisions. I liked that I didn't feel bad when suggesting that something wasn't perfect, and I didn't feel like they took that personally, which was a huge weight off my shoulders.
SO WHAT DID WE DO?
We started the project by exploring the history and purpose of the Hopscotch brand, as well as, Kaya's personal style and personality (the business is all her, so discovering that overlap was key). When we boiled it down, we knew the Hopscotch brand needed to be playful, classic, and clean.
The branding needed to not only fit the company's personality but easily extend into a variety of styles for packaging and other pieces.
We landed on a custom hand-lettered script for the primary logo and to bring out the playfulness of the brand, we brought the Hopscotch bunny to life.
Q: What was the hardest thing for you about working with a designer?
A: The hardest thing was being impatient! I LOVE the design process, and every time I got an email it was like Christmas morning.
Q: What surprised you about going through our design process?
I was surprised at what I actually did and did not like, and how they made it feel so easy and effortless.
SO HOW DID THAT TURN OUT?
Using the script logo and Hopscotch bunny we were able to provide branding variations that gives Hopscotch the flexibility it needs to work with a variety of packaging shapes and sizes. The brand now has consistency and all the personality Kaya was dreaming of. Her response below gives us goose bumps and is why we do what we do.
Q: How did our work add value to your business?
Oh.My.Gosh. I feel like I went from a sad little homemade product to something I am totally proud to paste all over the internet. It has made me feel like a real business, and it gave me a lot of confidence I was lacking. I'm not sure you can put a price on that.
