We blog a lot about our business and other biz topics, but we wanted to start a little blog series that was just for fun! The new "Dreaming of.." series is a chance for us to share things that are a bit more personal, and hopefully at least a teeny bit interesting. :)
So what am I dreaming of right now?
As I've probably mentioned 8472 times now, I just wrapped up reading #GIRLBOSS a couple of weeks ago. I learned a lot about the Nasty Gal business, but by the end of it I was inspired to think about the effort I put into my appearance. Shortly following, Kristin and I began working through the Braid Creative Branding ECourse. In one lesson they push you to really explore the "personal" side in your personal brand and, naturally, I was again faced with questions about my style.
Needless to say, I have the urge to toss out everything I own and start my closet all over.
But since that's a little extreme, I'm currently pushing to get to the core of how I can better shape my appearance to better fit my true personal brand. I'm including four areas of style I'm playing with below, hoping that by sharing them I will feel a little braver about actually trying them!
01 Red hair
Those who know me best know having some kind of red shade in my hair has basically been my lifelong dream. I recently finally made the plunge into a very light strawberry (#realtalk I was afraid to dive in head first and hate it) and am so incredibly in love! It's truthfully very subtle right now, but everytime I catch it in a light that shows it as super gingery I literally swoon. It's only kind of embarassing. But, seeing how much happiness and confidence the color has given me, I think I'm ready to edge a little deeper into red at my next hair appointment! #halwaytoweasley
02 Classic pieces
The best way to describe my current closet is "comfy and oversized." I LOVE these pieces and still absolutely believe in comfort first for fashion, I realize I'm lacking on killer classic pieces. I really need to invest in a LBD that can be dressed up or down, plain blacks and whites, button downs, and pumps I feel comfortable rocking casually.
03 Polished and feminine
In the Braid ECourse, we had to name three of our style icons and I was surprised that the first one to pop to my head was Betty Draper from Mad Men. Betty's wardrobe is very ladylike, fitted, and obviously of a different era. I can't say that I own more than a few pieces of clothing that come close to this. After observing her killer style I realized what attracts me to her style is how polished and feminine she looks in every scene. She cares about the details of her perfectly done hair and bold lipsticks. She also happens to wear outfits with killer silhouettes. My takeaway? Dress like you know you're fabulous. Also, maybe take the 5 extra minutes to do my hair before I leave the house.
04 A touch of "badassery"
Yeah I know, that's not exactly a word. I've always been attracted to pieces that stray from basically anything my mother would pick out for me. (My love affair with converse in high school is my only proof.) But there's something awesome to me about the contradiction of strong feminine pieces paired with something that just makes you feel like you have the "cool factor." Based on my most recent pins, I think the next step here is to invest in a leather jacket or even just new black ankle boots.
