Whether a project is between brands, clients or partners, work that is done in the true effort of collaboration is simply better.
We know that some business owners really struggle with the idea of collaborating. There are bosses who get overwhelmed by the idea of bringing someone else into their bubble. They say they know their process is tried and true, but oftentimes, they just see working with someone else as a restriction.
But this isn't how true collaboration works.
It's not about having a commander or taking orders, in fact, that is exactly what it is NOT about.
A true partnership is a very open, two-way street. Collaborations allow the work to go deeper and should be a process of sharing that transforms the end product every step of the way.
Still not sure how you feel about going into a collaboration? Here are a few reasons partnering up with someone can make your business better.
More ideas are brought to the table
If you simply look at the numbers you can that if there are more people involved there will be more ideas in the mix. But really it goes beyond that. When you collaborate, you open up the opportunity for ideas you already have to be built on and made into something new! Something that may have never been thought of with only one person on the job. I like to think of this as letting our ideas reach their full potential. Collaboration is simply opening ourselves up to inspiration.
A second perspective is a powerful thing
Not only does another perspective inspire, it can assure us and challenge us. When I'm second guessing myself I love having someone I can go to and talk things through. But also, when I'm struggling to get past that creative block, I have someone who is both a cheerleader and a coach working right there with me. It can be so easy to get inside of our own heads and never see something that may be glaringly obvious. Collaboration, in this case, can often feel like a safety net.
Collaboration creates a new kind of ownership
A big "pride" issue that keeps people from collaboration is their fear of giving up ownership of their work. But working with others can actually create a new (and we think better!) kind of ownership. True collaborations belong to both no one and everyone. When the project doesn't rely completely on you, you have a slight burden lifted off your shoulders. It can actually create a whole new feeling of freedom for what you are working on. A good partnership will not discuss the who did what nitty gritty detail. Sometimes we even forget who did exactly what! We just know that something we love resulted from it. You will be proud. Because whether or not you did it alone, you did it!
Some things are just better together
We're both introverts, but we have to agree that some things are just so much more FUN when you don't have to do it alone. Collaborations are anything but lonely and can help you really thrive. We have both done work on our own before, but working together has made everything we do just a little more exciting. Having someone who shares in every joy and can truly understand what is happening in the business is the best.
What do you think about collaborating? Is it something that excites you, scares you, or just turns you off? We'd love to hear what you think!
